I am delighted to announce the appointment and call of CMJ USA’s National Director, the Rev. Canon Daryl Fenton (on left with me and Archbishop Tito Zavala of Chile). Canon Fenton, a graduate of Wheaton College and Trinity School for Ministry, now serves as canon to Archbishop Robert Duncan of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). He will assume his new responsibilities on July 1, 2011, joining the faithful CMJ workers who for over 200 years have advanced the Kingdom among Jewish people. In Daryl’s accepting the call, he stated, "Sharing the transforming love of Jesus with Jewish people is work to which the Lord first call me 30 years ago."
Recent Shoresh Study Tours to Israel
Board members, Bishop Neil Lebhar and his wife Marcia, hosted a most successful Familiarization study tour to Israel in February. This Shoresh tour is for church leaders who are preparing to bring their own groups to Israel in the future. Next year’s FAM tour is scheduled for February 8-17, 2012. The Lebhars will again host this group.
January 8-23 I led a group of 24 for our first Shoresh program titled “Early Church History in the Holy Land.” The Rev. Dr. Leslie Fairfield, Church History professor emeritus from Trinity School for Ministry, Ambridge, PA, was our lecturer. We had a wonderful Shoresh guide, Sheila, who taught us amazing things. In the evenings we had special lectures by Drs. Ray Pritz and Petra Heldt who teach in the area of early Christianity in Israel.
St LouisMeetings: LCJE NA Conference
On March 25-26, our CMJ USA board met at the Union Station Marriott Hotel in downtown St. Louis, MO within sight of the famous Arch at the edge of the Mississippi River.
This was followed by a visit to Church of the Resurrection Church on Sunday before we began the three-day Lausanne Consultation on Jewish Evangelism (LCJE) conference. (Right picture with Pastor Paul Walter and friends from Resurrection Church)
The LCJE NA conference was filled with great talks, Bible studies on the Book of Hebrews, and tremendous fellowship at meals with 80 or so of leaders from around the country. Steve Cohen, founder of Apple of His Eye Ministries in St. Louis MO, (pictured with his family on the left) as well as LCJE International Coordinator and Secretary from Denmark, Dr. Kai Kjaer-Hansen (pictured below with former CMJ UK director Robin Aldridge) and Bodil Skjott were a part of this event.
Finally, the meeting of the Ecumenical Relations Task Force/Jewish Leaders
About a dozen of us stayed an extra day at the Union Station Marriott to fellowship together – Anglicans and messianic leaders. It was the second meeting of our Task Force where we have been building fellowship together.
Bishop Wes Nolden (in purple shirt) joined us from his church in Illinois. Other members of the Task Force came from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Baltimore.
I am writing this on the first day of Passover and wish each of you a Happy Passover and a Joyous Resurrection season!
