Jewish-Christian Couples

The Perils and Possibilities

There are an estimated 2,000,000 Jewish-Christian married couples in the United States. This does not include the countless unmarried couples in a Jewish-Christian relationship. Prior to 1970, just 17 percent of American Jews were married to a non-Jewish person. However, Pew Research Center found that since 2010, 61 percent of Jews who married in the U.S. wed a non-Jewish person.

The growth and acceptance of Jewish/Christian relationships can be seen by the success of the Netflix program, Nobody Wants This! This hit series about a Jewish rabbi dating a Christian woman attracted 10,000,000 viewers on Netflix.

Jewish/Christian couples face a variety of challenges not faced by same-faith couples such as:

  • “What faith are we going to raise our children? Jewish or Christian?”
  • “Where are we going to worship… at a church or a synagogue?
  • “Will we celebrate Passover or Easter? Christmas or Hanukkah?”
